SUITBAE Sizing Guide | How to Measure Yourself Properly

How to Measure the Widest Part of Your Torso

This diagram shows the two most common measuring points for a SUITBAE jacket fit. You must always size from the widest part of your upper body, whether that is the chest or the belly. This ensures the jacket sits cleanly and avoids pulling or strain.

Diagram showing chest and belly measurement lines for SUITBAE sizing

Black Line — Standard Torso Measurement

The black line shows the position many men will measure at: around the upper chest and back. If this is the widest point of your torso, this measurement determines your jacket size.

Red Line — Belly Measurement (If This Is Wider)

The red line shows where men with a larger stomach should measure instead. If your belly measurement is bigger than your chest, this becomes your true sizing number.

Example:
Chest: 44″
Belly: 47″
→ Your jacket size is based on 47″.

SUITBAE Recommendation for Bigger Builds

If your belly is larger than your chest, you have two valid choices:

  • Size to the widest measurement (jacket closes cleanly, best for weddings and photos).
  • Size to your chest for sharper shoulders (jacket worn open, looks very smart with a waistcoat).

SUITBAE waistcoats tighten by up to 2 inches, so even if you size to the belly, the waistcoat will still pull in neatly for shape.

2. Waist (Trousers) – The Jeans Rule

Suit trousers sit higher than jeans, so your jean size is the best starting point.

Simple rule:

  • Jeans fit comfortably → order the same size.
  • Jeans feel snug → order one size up.

All SUITBAE trousers include a hidden stretch panel that flexes up to 3 inches.

Examples:

  • 34" jeans (comfortable) → 34" trousers
  • 34" jeans (tight) → 36" trousers
  • 40" jeans → 40" trousers (flex to 43")

3. Broad Shoulders vs Bigger Belly – Which Size Wins?

If you have broad shoulders:

  • Size to the shoulders and chest.
  • The waist can be taken in by a tailor.

If your belly is larger:

  • Size to the largest torso measurement.
  • Or choose the open-jacket approach for a sharper shoulder fit.

If you're slim or athletic:

  • Use your true chest measurement.
  • The waistcoat adjuster will refine your shape.

4. SUITBAE vs High Street Sizing

High street stores usually stop around a 52" chest. SUITBAE stocks up to a 58" chest and 52" waist.

We use true measurements: The number you measure is the number you order.

  • 44" chest → Size 44
  • 50" chest → Size 50
  • 56–58" chest → Size 56–58

5. No Tape? Use the Quick Size Calculator

Jacket & Waistcoat (based on T-shirt size):

  • L → 42–44"
  • XL → 46–48"
  • XXL → 50–52"
  • 3XL → 54–56"

Trousers:

  • Comfortable jeans → same size
  • Tight jeans → one size up
  • Bigger legs → one size up

6. Easy Adjustments

SUITBAE suits are built with simple tailoring in mind:

  • Jackets can be taken in at the waist
  • Waistcoats tighten by up to 2 inches
  • Trousers can be shortened
  • Waistbands stretch up to 3 inches

Get the widest torso measurement right and the rest is easy.
